Testimony of Love - Barbara Maughan
1. How many years have you been following God?
I have been a follower of Jesus Christ for 42 years. Before that, I considered myself a Christian because I grew up in a Christian home, attended church, and was even confirmed. However, I had never truly understood the gospel or surrendered my life to Christ.
2. How have you experienced light breaking into darkness?
Before surrendering to Christ, I felt a deep sense of emptiness and knew there had to be something more. At the moment of my salvation, I had a vision of a great chasm separating me from a place full of light, colour, and life. I longed to cross over, but I knew I couldn’t do it on my own. Then, suddenly, I saw a bridge—Christ’s cross—making a way for me. As I stepped onto it, I experienced a supernatural transformation and received a glorious welcome into the Kingdom of Light. My whole perspective on life completely changed, and the joy of Christ broke into my heart.
3. How has God’s love been made known to you?
Over the years, I have come to a growing realisation of God’s love for me. It is an amazing reality—to know that the Creator of the universe loves me personally. I have learned to live in the security of His acceptance and to rest in the centre of His love. This has transformed how I see others, enabling me to love and accept people in all situations as Christ does. I have found that the more I give, the more there is to give, and I now experience overflowing rivers of living water (John 7:38) as I love and serve others.
4. What role has confession played in your walk with God?
Confession has been vital in my journey with Christ. I have learned that God sees and knows everything—my deepest thoughts, hidden resentments, and struggles. The Holy Spirit continually convicts and refines me, prompting me to deal with wrong attitudes or actions. Whenever I hold onto sin, especially in relationships, I feel restless and unsettled until I confess it before God. Through this, I have experienced His faithfulness to forgive (1 John 1:9) and the freedom and renewal that confession brings. I have also discovered the power of prayer in loving others. When I struggled to relate to someone, I prayed for them, and God softened my heart. This has taught me to extend Christ’s love to all people, even those I naturally found difficult to connect with.
