SPIRITUAL GIFTS: EXHORTATION / ENCOURAGEMENT

Our desire is that every Christ-follower is an active member of a local church and to know what spiritual gifts God has given them for building up the church and the common good. Once you have an idea of how God has gifted you with unique manifestations of the Spirit, use the following next-step guide to help you develop and deploy your gifts as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

EXHORTATION / ENCOURAGEMENT

The gift of exhortation/encouragement is the divine enablement to minister words of comfort, consolation, encouragement, and counsel to other those who are discouraged or wavering in their faith.

Romans 12:8; 1 Timothy 4:13; Hebrews 10:25; Acts 11:22-24, 14:22, 15:30-32

Grow in your understanding of God’s word and consider doing the “Grounded Theology Course” as part of establishing a robust theology from which you can encourage, counsel and comfort others!

HOW TO DEVELOP:

RECOMMENDED BOOKS:

The Gift of Exhortation” by Chuck Smith

“Your Gift: Exhortation” by Douglas Porter

  • Pray and seek opportunities to speak courage and comfort into people’s lives.

  • Be obedient and open to the Spirit. If you feel you have something to say to someone

during a conversation, say it, or if they come into your mind, message them!

  • Set a reminder on your phone to “Encourage Someone Today” and then do it.

  • Bring an exhortation for the congregation on a Sunday during our worship time. It could

be spontaneous but it could be a short 2-minute moment you've prepared in advance of something on your heart for our community.
